Heating System Design

    Heating System Design

Complete Heating System Design — From Heat Loss to Final Layout

Aros designs heating systems from the property's heat demand rather than rules of thumb. Starting with room-by-room calculations, the agreed design can cover heat pump sizing, emitters, pipework, hydraulics and controls. We support retrofit and new-build projects for homeowners, installers and housing providers.

    What's Included

End-to-end design, from calculation to installer-ready documentation.

    Heat loss calculation
    Heat pump sizing
Emitter selection (radiators / underfloor heating)
    Flow temperature optimisation
    Pipe sizing calculations
    Hydraulic configuration design
    Hot water cylinder specification
    Control strategy planning
    Full room-by-room emitter schedules
    System schematics
Buffer / low loss header guidance
    Zoning and control recommendations

    Why It Matters

Designed for long-term performance, not just compliance.

Design decisions should support efficient operation and practical installation, with assumptions and site constraints made clear.

    Low flow temperature operation
    Maximum system efficiency
    Correct hydraulic balance
    Future-proof system design
    Compliance with best practice standards

    Who This Is For

    Who We Work With

Heat pump installers requiring independent design
Homeowners wanting a system designed in their interest
Housing associations & social housing providers
    Developers building low-carbon properties

We provide independent, technically sound designs that prioritise long-term performance over short-term convenience.

    Agreeing the design and handover

The required documentation depends on the project and agreed scope. Confirm whether you need heat loss reports, emitter schedules, equipment sizing, pipework details, schematics and control notes before design work begins.

Homeowners can supply drawings and specifications, including new-build plans. For installer-led desktop projects, complete site survey evidence is supplied by the installer. Installation and commissioning remain the installer's responsibility.

Changes to construction, layout, equipment or site conditions should be raised before installation so their effect on the design can be reviewed.

    Common questions

Do you design heating for new builds?

Yes. Aros supports new builds as well as retrofit projects. Drawings, fabric specifications and proposed heating arrangements provide the starting evidence for agreeing the design scope.

Can you work with my installer?

Yes. Aros supplies the agreed independent design; your installer undertakes installation and commissioning and checks site conditions against the information used for design.

Is a heat pump always the right choice?

System choices depend on the property, heat demand and practical constraints. The assessment and agreed design consider the available evidence rather than assuming a particular product.
