Outsourced Heat Pump Design

    Outsourced Heat Pump Design

Independent desktop design support for installers across the UK

Aros supports installers who need independent heating design without outsourcing their site survey or installation. You supply complete, property-specific survey information; we prepare the agreed heat loss and heating design. The scope is agreed before work begins, whether you need a calculation package or wider system design support.

    What's Included

Design support matched to your project

    Room-by-room heat loss calculations
    Heat pump sizing guidance
    Emitter assessment and sizing
    Design flow temperature assessment
Pipework and hydraulic design within the agreed scope
Agreed schedules, schematics and design notes

    Why It Matters

A design is only as sound as its survey evidence

Desktop design relies on the information captured on site. Missing or contradictory evidence needs resolving before the affected design can be completed.

Identify missing fabric and room data
    Record assumptions and limitations
Align design with the actual property
Separate design scope from installation responsibilities

    Who This Is For

For installers needing independent design support

Heat pump installers supplying their own site survey
Teams requiring additional desktop design capacity
Installers seeking independent heat loss or emitter calculations

Homeowners can also work with Aros through our heat loss and heating design services, including new builds supported by drawings and specifications.

    Survey information we need

The required evidence depends on the agreed scope and property. Send your available survey information for review before commissioning a design.

    • Room dimensions, ceiling heights, floor plans and room uses
    • Wall, roof and floor construction and insulation evidence
    • Window and door dimensions, glazing information and ventilation details
    • Existing emitters and pipework details, with relevant measurements and photographs
    • Proposed heat pump and cylinder positions, routes and site constraints
    • Relevant electrical supply information and proposed hot water requirements
    • For new builds: drawings, fabric specifications and proposed heating arrangements

How the desktop design process works

    • 1. Agree the property, required outputs and design scope.
    • 2. Review the supplied survey and identify missing or inconsistent evidence.
    • 3. Prepare the agreed calculations and system design, documenting assumptions.
    • 4. Issue the agreed documentation and review questions against the scope.

    Software, handover and revisions

Aros can work from complete survey information prepared in software such as Spruce, subject to the available information and agreed file-sharing arrangements. Cross-account access or automatic transfer is not assumed; confirm a workable handover method before sending project information.

The design package can include heat loss reports, emitter schedules, sizing information, schematics and design notes, according to the agreed scope. Confirm the required outputs before work begins.

Changes to the survey, fabric, layout, equipment or installation approach may require a design revision. Share updated evidence with Aros so the impact and any additional scope can be agreed before relying on a revised design.

    Installer and designer responsibilities

The installer supplies and verifies the site survey. Aros supplies the agreed design based on the evidence provided. Installation remains the installer's responsibility; commissioning remains the installer's responsibility.

The installer must check site conditions and equipment requirements before installation, report differences from the supplied information, and seek design clarification where needed. Desktop design does not replace an on-site survey or installer checks.

    Common questions

Can I outsource just the heat loss calculations?

Yes. Aros provides independent heat loss services as well as wider heating design. Agree the required scope and supply complete survey evidence for the calculations.

Does Aros carry out the installation?

No. For outsourced desktop projects, the installer supplies the survey and undertakes installation and commissioning. Aros supplies the agreed design.

Can you work with a Spruce survey?

Complete information prepared in software such as Spruce can support desktop design. Confirm the required evidence and available sharing or export arrangements first; cross-account access is not assumed.
